Youth & Education

Citizenship, Social Responsibility, Brotherhood.

Youth participating in AFR programs learn through activities such as speech and poster contests, award trips, and national and statewide leadership camps. The state organization awards more than $25,000 in college scholarships in addition to numerous county level scholarships.

All Oklahoma youth, first grade through college, can participate in AFR activities.

State Scholarships

American Farmers & Ranchers sponsors college scholarships annually to young people who have been active participants in the Youth Program. College scholarships are given annually to assist participants financially with college and university expenses.

County Scholarships

AFR/OFU assists our county and local organizations by offering a County/Local Match Scholarship Program. The state organization will match each participating county up to $1000, making the total available dollars for County/Local Match Scholarships $2000.

Youth Advisory Council

The Council consists of high school juniors and seniors representing AFR/OFU youth from across the state. Members of the 2015-2016 Council are Madi Baughman, Lone Grove; Grant Wilber, Cherokee; Ashley Tucker, Fairview; Macee Hammack, Leedy; and Guess Leonard, Claremore.

Council members participate in agriculture-based service projects throughout the year and assist in planning many AFR/OFU Youth Program activities. They also facilitate AFR/OFU events and act as mentors for younger Oklahoma youth.

Speech Contests

This popular event is held in the fall of each year and is available to members and non-members.

Students in grades 4-12 compete in their respective category at District contests held around the state.

First and second place winners in each of the categories advance to the State Speech Contest held in Stillwater on the campus of Oklahoma State University.

While competing in the contest, the top three category winners in each of the four divisions receive plaques and special recognition.

Each contestant receives a certificate of participation. First, second and third place state contest winners receive plaques and cash scholarships.

Adult Education Programs

American Farmers & Ranchers sponsored adult education programs include leadership development, county and local officer training, women's programs and much more.

These programs offer a variety of opportunities for adults of all ages and interests. While building the youth of Oklahoma - the future, AFR also strives to open doors of opportunity and assist current leaders in local communities, this state and nation.
