This popular event is held in the fall of each year and is available to members and non-members. Students in grades 4-12 compete in their respective category at District contests held around the state. First and second place winners in each of the categories advance to the State Speech Contest held in Stillwater on the campus of Oklahoma State University.

Ames, Okla., farmer and rancher Terry Detrick is stepping aside as President of American Farmers & Ranchers, to pursue additional leadership opportunities within the organization.

Detrick has been president since February 2009.  He has also served AFR in various leadership positions including vice president and board member.

Detrick will remain president until the 2017 AFR convention, Feb. 17-18, at which time voting delegates will elect his replacement.

AFR President Terry Detrick issued the following statement in support of the water rights agreement between the The State of Oklahoma and The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, The Chickasaw Nation, and The City of Oklahoma City following the press conference held on August 11th.

Oklahoma residents will have the opportunity to vote on State Question 777, Right to Farm, in November, following the announcement Aug. 8, by the Oklahoma Supreme Court.

More than 200 young people from around the state participated in the annual American Farmers & Ranchers Leadership Summit, July 24-29.

Participants learned such skills as setting and achieving short- and long-term goals and working in teams. They also learned the value of personal responsibility, respect for their peers and many other positive attributes. 

In response to the troubling economic situation facing U.S. dairy farmers, American Farmers & Ranchers today invited the Oklahoma congressional delegation to sign on to a letter of support urging USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack to take immediate action.

The American Farmers & Ranchers Youth Advisory Council was started more than 30 years ago and has produced numerous outstanding young leaders.

The youth advisory council members for 2015-2016 are Ashley Tucker, Grant Wilber, Guess Leonard, Macee Hammack, and Madi Baughman. 

Ever since civilization began, people have seen mutual benefit in working together to achieve a common goal. In discussing the history of cooperatives it is difficult to distinguish between the concept of cooperation — combining efforts for a common goal — from that of forming a user-owned business.
